In the 1500’s the Plague would strike London about every 10 years, London population might hover around 100,000.After the plague came through it would drop to 50,000 to 60,000.
So you had anywhere from 40,000 to 50,000 corpses to deal with.
There were at least 3 major cemeteries outside the city walls.

The archeological findings show that they would dig square sided trenches about 10 feet wide of varying lengths ,then they would reverentially place a line of bodies, cover them in chalk then lay another line of bodies on top.On and on.
When full they would start a new trench.
This whole area is full of trenches.

The Carthusians were a cloistered monastery, so their lives were spent in prayer. They were also a powerful political force that Henry and Cromwell could not let stand if they would not give support to his divorce desires.
The Carthusians would not do that and the Hung ,drawn and quartering of the. CArthsians began.
Another thing to consider was the Augustinian order ran hospice and healthcare facilities all over England.
Henry could not massacre them in the same manner because they were needed in the community.
T he Carthusian monasterywas disbanded after the Carthsians were killed and imprisoned. One of Henry’s “old boys” got the property turned it into a mansion.
For 66 years it was privately owned then Thomas #Sutton bought it and turned it into a charity house and, a school for the poor.
To this day “pensioners” male and female live there. We took a great 2 hour tour led by on of the residents.

Today we went to the Natural History museum and saw some amazing photographs by The Wildlife Photographer of the 2026.
